Ever since BSoD has been put on hiatus, people have come to the IRC channel asking the same thing, "What should I do for a segment? My ideas aren't up to par with the content here. Etc. etc..." I think it's time I release a list of ideas for segments.
I've wanted to learn some of the things that are in this list and, by all means, if you can teach it, GO FOR IT! Nobody is holding you back but yourself. Remember, nothing blatantly illegal. Your objective is to teach, not to showcase your 1337 skills, or to teach a specific how-to-do unless that how-to-do teaches us something. Also remember that the people on BSoD aren't just the people you see on the IRC list, they are EVERYONE who watches this show. That means there are those that don't know as much as you do. So here it is....please feel free to add to the list. CODE - Physical Hacking (Urban FreeFlow) [Last seen: Episode 6] - Phone Phreaking [Last seen: Episode 3&4] - Guide to Soldering [Last seen: Episode 12] - Intro to Electronics [Last seen: Episode 2] (still would like to know more about inductance, farads, impedance, AC, DC, etc.) - Reading Electronics Schematics [learning to read them and how to use them] - Reverse Engineering [basics and techniques of reverse engineering...fun fun (KEEP LEGAL!)] - Penetration-Proof Your Home Network [conduct penetration tests and whatnot to ensure a secure home network] - C++ tutorial [Last seen: Episodes 15-20] - Locks, keys, and tools [Keep it legal please] - Using Electronics Tools [multimeters, ampmeters etc.] - Intro to understanding and using Codecs [big topic i'm sure] - Firefox about:config hacks [speed hacks, tweaks and all kinds of stuff!] - Building a PC/Assembly [explaining each component and how to assemble a PC, cooling, choosing the right chassis, compatibility and setup, etc.] - Intro to Encryption [programs like PGP, TrueCrypt, etc.] - Intro to compression [tips for compression and decompression] - Modding a Camera for Infrared Vision - Modding & Programming the TI-89 Titanium calculator (and others) [there's some really neat stuff this thing can do....] - Intro to Radio Scanners [using radio scanners and tips on what to look for in certain bands] - Intro to Antenna Theory [how antennas work and why their designs work] - Radio Modulation [explain AM, FM, SSB, QAM, PSK (used for WiFi), and perhaps how to use them etc.] - Trunked radio systems [explanation, using, etc.] - More SSTV (Slow-Scan TV) [MMSSTV, Last seen: Episode 6] - Moon Bouncing/Bouncing on the Ionosphere for ham radio - Intro to networking [understanding how networks work, aspects, etc.] - Digital Logic Gates [NAND, XOR, AND, OR, number systems etc.] - Wilderness Survival [sometimes...we're not in the city. Tech in the wilds!] - Self Defense [when you're roaming the cities at night, you need to know how to kick some royal ass] - Windows Registry [I'm sure theres lots to do there] - Physics and Chemistry [no need to go too deep but its around us (light, sound, electricity, atoms, mechanics etc.)] - Using Infrared [remote controls, sending/manipulating data, etc.] - Intro to Servers and how to make one [from the very basic to the most advanced] - Home Protection [devices, precautions, procedures, to face any disaster. Shit does hit the fan. BE PREPARED!] - Google Earth [lots of uses, loading maps, searching, etc.] As you might have noticed, some of these topics have been covered but haven't been continued. Some of these topics I myself am knowledgeable in but time is always against us. So, with that said, go right ahead and teach. Remember, it DOES NOT have to be 1337 or "up there". Please take a good look at Ophidian's "Maglite LED Review" in episode 25. Something as simple as that on this show should encourage us to be confident and not be intimidated. Look through the list of topics already covered on BSoD and see if you can add more to it. Nice idea list.
I'm taking an electronics class maybe I can get into some of that stuff. As far as physical hacking maybe a basic segment on lock picking (with picks and with paper clips) -------------------- ~People fear what they do not understand
~Maybe thats why the media over-reacts about high school script kiddies |
