Okay so I'm not sure how many people have one of these little guys but here is what I would like to do a couple segments on, I would appreciate some feedback as to additions/removal of what I would talk about.
Segment 1: Intro to the ZipIt Z2 -Into to the ZipIt hardware/software that comes stock. -Booting the device into a shell without flashing firmware. -Flashing firmware to a pre-canned version of linux (like aliosa27's images or something) -Basic setup of wifi for WEP or WPA. Segment 2: Custom Kernel Compiling -Using open embedded, compile the latest kernel + user land. -Flashing the kernel Segment 3: Bootloaders -Discussion of blob/u-boot/redboot bootloaders (what they are, why one is more useful etc) -Compile your own u-boot from svn + patch file! -Flash the new bootloader Segment 4: I broke It -Taking apart the zipit -Sodlering the serial connector -Flashing new kernel from blob+u-boot using serial port. -Soldering the JTAG connector -Debrick using Openocd + JTAG So thats a rough outline of what I want to cover. Due to the hardware nature of it, it will be a mix of screen cast + camera. I also just kinda broke up topics into segments, but if a segment ends up being super short I could merge two together. Let me know if your: a) even interested int these segments Thanks, |

Many of us on IRC have a Z2. These sound great. Just remember, max of 15 minutes, if you go over I wont really bitch though.
You might be able to toss in a Z2 Apps that dont suck segment, maybe air ir earlier on so people know what to expect what to get out of a Z2. Part 1) dont need to focus on setting up the Z2, the user manual does that. Showcasing some prebuilt apps from the Z2 shell would be cool, the whole 'Apps that dont suck' thing. Might want to toss in the intro what the device specs are (CPU, RAM, SD limit, Wifi, LCD, etc), linux build, and mention it was designed with us in mind. Part2) All gold. Thats a solid topic. part 3) could be good, but might want to just have a rundown on Bootloaders, IPL, SPL, but it might be covered in another segment by the time this airs. Part 4) Another golden segment. You dont need to film the process of soldering. Just a before and after shot of what you had to do. Focus more on the recovery method in finer details. By now we have enough baseline segments on how to solder stuff, so no need to give them an in-detail how-to This is all good shit! Keep up the brainstorming. We will be lurking on IRC to help out however we can. I could get you footage of the Z2 serial mod, or at least some pics of the mod I did. RKDavis from the Zipit channel needs me to install the serial recovery mod in his. I could always do that on camera for you, if its helpful for the segment. |
