Just booked up my flights, hotel and transfers. I'm going to be in NYC from 30 Jan 2009 14:15 to 9 Feb 2009. I'm planning on making the 2600 but if anyone wants to meet up for a drink or something I'd be up for that. I'll be staying at the Thirty Thirty in New York City.

Im definitely down for it. Word of warning though, NYC is very VERY cold that time of year. Bring plenty of warm clothes. Having layers is key to make due with the whacky NYC weather.

If we plan this properly, perhaps we can get Mustang and Ugster from the neighboring state in for a while and do some damage. Being that its so cold, I tend to hibernate, so I wouldnt really expect everyone to converge into NYC.

Where is your hotel located?

Yeah I'll keep it in mind that it gets very cold. The hotels address is:

Sounds good. I'll have to set up my travel laptop (old Dell X300) for the trip. Airport security tend to be a little unfriendly so I'll just bring a laptop, a few batteries, GPS dongle and a couple of wireless cards.

Sounds good. I definitely have some spare toys I can offer. Depending on weather conditions we can see what kind of chaos we can cause.

I'll bring a few low cost radio's with me too, that way if they get taken by security I'm not that bothered. I'll also pick up a US prepaid phone as soon as I get into JOHN F KENNEDY Terminal 7 as I need my other phone on and it will be cheaper than international rates.

I should be on UHF 462.5500 - 467.7125 MHz, I'll post exactly what I'm on close to the time unless someone has something they want me to operate on and I'll jump on IRC when I get to my hotel and relax a bit to give out the phone number I'll be using.

Since you are a ham, i can give you the info for some of the local repeaters which i tend to operate on, if you are interested. We still have some time to plan, we seem to be getting our shit together early, which is good.

If you want to meet mustang and ugtser i can see if they can crash at my place for a few days. If you want to get on the local ham (or other bands) i can loan you my antenna and some coax.. but you HAVE TO GIVE IT BACK, otherwise i have nothing for me :{

haha yeah sounds good. Anything you loan me will come back in the same condition I received it, don't you worry. I hate it when I loan stuff to people and I don't get it back or they have damaged it.

Sounds good. Its coming closer, I just did the whole visa waiver program thing, which was approved so all is good.

I'm out there for 10 days and will be spending quite a bit of time on my own doing my own thing I'm sure, as my girl friend likes to shop and I don't, so I'm planning on seeing:

Empire State Building
Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum
Chinatown
Ground Zero
Statue of Liberty
American Museum of Natural History
Macy’s
Central Park
Grand Central Terminal
Federal Reserve Bank
Sony Wonder Technology Lab
Chrysler Building
Times Square

And I'm sure I'll wonder into a few other things, is there anything else worth me seeing?
I can do the whole tech thing with you guys but I'm sure you would be bored doing the whole tourist thing, so I'll do that on my own.

Any idea if I would be allowed to take a bag full of random tech shit into the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum?

also I've been recommended a few places to eat while I'm out there:
Shake Shack
Madison Square Park, southeast corner nr. 23rd St.; 212-889-6600

Daisy May's BBQ USA
623 Eleventh Ave., New York, NY 10036
at 46th St

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que
646 W. 131st St., New York, NY 10027
at Twelfth Ave

Momofuku Noodle Bar
171 First Ave., New York, NY 10003

Una Pizza Napoletana
349 E. 12th St., New York, NY 10003

Is there any place people would recommend?

Personally myself, I would poke my head into Tekserve for about three minutes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tekserve

I also would not mind hanging out and getting drinks. It should not be too bad because I am not affected by cold, but by snow. And thanks to GW and the nature of NYC that should not be a problem.

You will also see me at the 2600 on Feb 6th if anything.

Welcome to the Urban Jungle. cool.gif

Just a quick update. I checked in online (24 hours before) and I'll be heading to the airport fairly early tomorrow morning for the 8 hours or so flight. Once I arrive and get my shit in order/ set up a base of operations (unpack) and get the lay of the land (find the pubs) I'll jump on IRC and give out the US phone number I set up for the trip and other radio related information to anyone that wants it.

If everyone is busy I'll catch them at 2600.
